Our clients came to us to create a kitchen that would be equally luxurious and functional. These busy professionals discovered a love of cooking together during the pandemic and wanted a space that felt custom and high-end. The kitchen was large but felt dark and out of place in this sophisticated, contemporary downtown home.
The design was centered around creating dedicated work zones to improve the layout. The flow and circulation was completely reimagined and we maximized space that had been previously underutilized. We carefully inventoried their existing kitchen to create storage highly customized to fit their needs - right down to the height of each drawer.
A refrigeration wall, enclosed pantry, produce drawer and island form a comfortably positioned work triangle away from the cooktop and dining area. The prep station is a sous chef’s dream thanks to sundrenched city views and a set of backlit drawers custom designed for our clients’ knives, boards, bowls and tools.
The serving zone is styled for day-to-night use with a full-size wine refrigerator by Gaggenau. A dedicated counter serves as a coffee station / wine bar and lighting was added for a moody glow early in the morning and after sundown. The large island serves three purposes. A 3-seat island table was designed in place of the previous linear seating to create a whole new dining experience. This allowed us to 10’ of glass cabinets for massive additional storage.
The selected finishes are elegant, authentic, and durable. Taj mahal quartzite lines the counters and walls and pairs flawlessly with unlacquered brass Waterworks fixtures and pulls. Lighting is layered for optimal working light, integrated accent lights and directional art wall lighting. Semi flush cylinders are favored over pendants so that the view corridor remains unobstructed.

We meticulously planned the layout and created four distinct zones: Prep Zone, Cooking Zone, Cleaning Zone and Serving Zone. Each space has ample area to work. We designed the storage specifically for each zone. For example, the pots and pans are stored in a drawer under the cooktop and the prep zone has space for bowls, knives and cutting boards.
-
We shifted the seating to the end of the island to create true dining area in place of linear counter seating.
-
Added millwork, glass cabinetry and a custom nickel hood in a “warm modern” style. Selected warm wood tones and authentic, luxurious materials for a unique yet timeless design.
-
There are now three layers of light all on dimmers: downlights, island flush mounts, and accent lighting. We designed scenes specific to morning and evening needs.

Three features keep the counters free of clutter. The enclosed pantry is designed with a countertop for small appliances. The dedicated coffee station is separate from working spaces and has dedicated storage. We also added a vented drawer for unrefrigerated produce for vegetable storage.
